Celebrating 75 Years of Sainthood

Mother Cabrini's Feast Day began our Jubilee Year in Honor of the 75th Anniversary of the Canonizaton of Mother Cabrini. Cardinal Cupich petitioned Pope Francis through the Apostolic Penitentiary of the Vatican to declare a special Jubilee Year, beginning on November 13, 2021, and ending on the same date in November of 2022, and we have been blessed with his approval. Our theme is "Christ's love heals the world."

The main celebrant for the inaugural liturgy was Bishop Robert Casey, Vicar General of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Concelebrated by Bishop Mark Bartosic and our Rector, Father Ramil J. Fajardo and other religious order priests and priests of the Archdiocese of Chicago. The Liturgy began at 3:30 p.m. with the opening of the Holy Doors. A Holy Door, which symbolizes the doorway to salvation, is only opened at a cathedral, basilica or parish of special significance that becomes a pilgrimage site during a Jubilee year. The Holy Father has given bishops around the world the power to designate Holy Doors in their own diocese as places of pilgrimage for the faithful. Pilgrims passing through them secure the remission of their sins.

The Shrine has designated the Jubilee Holy Door by which pilgrims enter the Chapel and formally begin their prayer and encounter with Jesus Christ's Love. Our "Prayers for a Pilgrimage Walk with St. Frances Xavier Cabrini is available for use at the Holy Door as you begin your pilgrimage.

May this event bring us a renewed sense of the Gospel, a deepening of our relationship with God,
and a clearer understanding of what it means to follow Christ in today's world.
