A Lenten Reflection

A TIME TO OVERCOME OBSTACLES TO OUR SPIRITUAL LIFE

Obstacles to our Spiritual life can feel like large boulders on our path to finding God. They slow up our progress on our spiritual journey. They keep us from moving forward in our dreams and desires that God has placed in our hearts. They block us from seeing the untapped potential for our future. Sometimes obstacles are in our way because of sinful choices we are still making. As Christians, we have the choice to remove obstacles from our lives when we confess and repent of our sinfulness. Lent is our time when we choose to put aside all sinful behaviors. "Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perserverance the race marked out for us" (Hebrews 12:1). Sometimes the obstacles we see in front of us aren't even real. They are merely the fears, worries and lies we have imagined ourselves or have been created for us by others. Though unreal, they still have the power to paralyze us from moving forward. Many times the key to overcoming a major spiritual obstacle is to first deal with what we allow our minds to focus on and realign our thinking to be on par with the Word of God. Prayer, meditation, and reflection on God's Word during these next forty days of lent can demolish these strong hindrances. As believers, we know there is no obstacle that we face in life that is bigger than God. Nothing is too difficult for our God to help us overcome. Our time on earth is the process of proving our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Obstacles like boulders have crushed many people's faith because they gave up and turned their focus away from the Lord. Let this Lent be for you a sacred time to stare down the spiritual obstacles in your life just as David did to Goliath - let us walk forward victorious over all of our deadly obstacles to Easter Glory!
